Building for Brent

The London Borough of Brent doesn’t hold back when it comes to placemaking. We reside in a state of the art Civic Centre in Wembley, next to the iconic Wembley stadium and in one of the fastest developing areas in London. Our redevelopment of South Kilburn estate is an exemplar of how estate redevelopment should be delivered. There is however so much more to be done. The housing crisis has hit us hard and the lack of social housing for those who need it is no longer acceptable. This is why we have set a target to deliver 5000 truly affordable homes in the borough over the next 5 years, 1000 of which will be delivered directly by the Council. We have already secured the budget to fund these, backed by funding from the GLA.

The Post

We are now looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and self-starting Community Engagement officer to support and facilitate the council new build housing programme, working across both small and medium infill sites and large redevelopment (regeneration) sites.  You will be joining the housing supply and partnership team who values the partnership of residents and local stakeholders.  As post holder you will enable the community to play an active and positive role pre and post planning and across all aspects of the development.   You will be the first point of contact for residents and local stakeholders across multiple schemes, working with diverse teams of in house project managers and external development teams.

The Person

We are looking for someone who has experience of successfully leading community engagement including managing community events from conception to execution, creating digital engagement activities and gathering feedback across all mediums.   You should be an influencer who has the ability to build effective relationships and work in partnership with and influence a range of different stakeholders, contractors and internal services teams to deliver successful outcomes.

You will be at ease working on your own initiative within community settings and possess the drive to build successful working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including residents, councillors, community leaders, voluntary and community organisations.  So it’s essential that you have experience of effectively communicating with a range of community stakeholders to support the delivery of complex and sometimes contentious projects.

Closing Date: 19th September 2019

Assessment & Interview Date: 23rd September 2019
